HANSON'S 19TH NOT ENOUGH

The Frisco RoughRiders rallied from behind on two different occasions on Tuesday night, beating the Springfield Cardinals by a final score of 7-6 in Frisco, TX.

An unearned run charged against Jeremy Cook in the sixth inning snapped a 6-6 tie, giving the RoughRiders the lead for good.  With two outs, Cameron Coughlan walked and then stole second base.  Joaquin Arias then grounded a Cook pitch to the left of shortstop Brendan Ryan.  Ryan got to the ball, but his throw to first went off the glove of Gabe Johnson, who who was charged with an error.  On the play, Coughlan scored all the way from second, giving Frisco a 7-6 lead.

The Cards had only one man reach base in the final three innings.  Travis Hanson walked to open the seventh, then advanced to second with one out, on a wild pitch from reliever Agustin Montero.  With two outs, Kevin Estrada reached on a fielding error by Joaquin Arias.  But with runners at first and third with two outs, Dan Moylan grounded into an inning-ending fielder’s choice.  The Cards went in order in the eighth, then again in the ninth against closer Scott Feldman, who earned his 12th save of the year.

The Cards took the lead in the third, as Travis Hanson homered for the 19th time this year.  Shaun Boyd and Rick Ankiel walked to open the inning against Frisco starter Thomas Diamond.  One out later, Hanson’s three-run homer to left gave the Cards a 3-0 lead.  Hanson now has a career-high 81 RBIs, now tops in the Texas League.  The home run ties him for the team lead with Aaron Herr.

The Riders exploded with five straight hits to open the bottom of the third against Cards starter Chris Lambert.  Joaquin Arias and Vincent Sinisi each had an RBI single, making it 3-2.  After a Juan Senrieso sac fly tied the game at 3-3, Jason Hart followed with a two-run double, making it 5-3.  The former SMS Bear drove in three runs on the night, going 2-2 with a pair of walks.

The Cards responded with three in the fifth, taking a 6-5 lead.  With two outs, Travis Hanson got the rally started with a single.  Gabe Johnson followed with a run-scoring double, making it 5-4.  Papo Bolivar followed with an RBI triple, tying the game at 5-5.  Diamond was removed and replaced with eventual winner Mark Roberts (1-0).  Roberts allowed an RBI single to Kevin Estrada, as Bolivar scored to make it a 6-5 Cards lead.

The Riders would even the game at 6-6 against Chris Lambert in the fifth, then strike for the unearned run in the sixth against Jeremy Cook (3-7).

The Cardinals have now lost two straight and are 18-26 in the second half, 7.5 games back of Arkansas in the East Division.  The Cards look to finish the road trip with a win, as Stuart Pomeranz (2-5) takes the mound for the Redbirds.  Frisco will counter with Nick Masset (5-9).  Game time from Frisco on Wednesday night will be 7:00pm.  The Cardinals will return home to Hammons Field Hammons Field on Thursday, August 11th to face the Midland RockHounds and the Frisco RoughRiders in a seven-game home stand.  Don’t forget about Hardee's Ned Reynolds Bobblehead Doll Giveaway on Sunday, August 14th!  2,500 fans in attendance will receive a bobblehead doll featuring KY3 Sports Director Ned Reynolds....all thanks to Hardee's.  Tickets are available by calling (417) 863-2143 or online at www.springfieldcardinals.com
